I need to be brief this morning, but it’s been too long since I posted to this blog. I’ve been playing and practicing with golf’s usual mixed results. Yesterday, I played on a beautiful day in Northern California. The score was an unexciting 100 at the always tough Stonetree track, but the learning was better than that. Especially when I remembered my ‘ease of a layup’ approach. Slowing down my pace with a naturally shorter and more solid back swing (just like a layup). This results are more consistent, solid contact and a better line and shot shape.

Yet, I’m totally fascinated by how easy it is (oops) to forget this and get right back into trying too hard and swinging too hard. I’m happy that I’m sticking with the process of working through this seemingly fundamental attitude change. This round really connected me to this process of learning and the real value of my focus on ease. It really does work when I remember to do it. Ironically, remembering seems to be the hard part.

I’m also having fun “preparing” for one of Stonetree’s “majors.” It’s next Sunday 6/24, and since Charles and I won the Team Championship (see below), I am delighted to consider myself in the running for “Stonetree Player of the Year.” It’s a fun goal that is keeping me motivated to keep learning and getting better. I promise to keep you posted more frequently (and looking forward to more comments please.)
